This was a collaboration with my old friend Kay Bear Koss, a synthesis of Kay’s degraded painting and my pin-up girl. It was one of my first attempts at merging a photo into an existing image. In theory there is a garage somewhere in America’s southwestern desert full of similar paintings, each piece majestically splashed on a 4×8 sheet of plywood. One of these fine paintings is promised to me, if I’ll only swing by and get it. The garage may or may not be guarded by rattlers, a mean dog and shotgun wielding spurned lover.
I was going to make Kay Bear’s name a link but there were too many choices to do a single link. Kay is an artist, helps run a massive non-profit art space called Moxie Studios in Dublin, and is a co-founder of the Irish Museum of Contemprary Art.
You may at this time be picturing Kay as a large bearish man with a red beard and green overalls, you might be picturing a mild tempered woman in a sweat shirt covered in christmas animals. To strain your imagination even more, I’ll add to the mix that Kay is from Arizona, not Ireland.
And finally, in an attempt to sate whatever conclusion your imagination has come to, I’ll add this photo (stolen without permission from Kay’s facebook page). One of these two is almost certainly Kay…
